Knicks Lose GM2:Moral Victory or Heartbreaker?

If you didn't actually watch this game and all you were able to see was these highlights your initial reaction would be something like:"Damn the Knicks are always losing at the end". For the rest of the Knicks world that was glued to the television, they witnessed the true essence of playoff basketball. A battle from start until finish, key players going down, role players stepping up, every possession counts kinda game. Game 2 had every ingredient a MSG Classics Knicks game needed except for the win part.

No Billups, Amare with back spasms and the Knicks had a lead in the final minute of the game is a positive. I may seem like a "homer" right now but I was not this optimistic immediately after the loss. I took some time to gather my thoughts, rewound the tape about 500 times and watched the post game interviews. I realized that this team was not down, there spirits weren't broken, they were going to spin this into a motivation factor.

Backbreaking and season ending loss or the Motivation to see some Winning Knicks basketball friday?

A Better Look At The KG "Trippin" of TD

I DVR the game like most so I was able to rewind and re-watch the clip from the live view but this is much easier to make a decision. What you think?

No Billups:Landry Fields Needs To Step Up

With Chauncey Billups likely out for game 2 other players will have to step up in a huge way. The Amber Alert has been activated for Landry Fields ever since the arrival of Carmelo Anthony, his play has diminished and so have his minutes. Fields has severely suffered from Melo's style of play, Fields was building a pedigree of moving without the ball and Amare racking up assists because of it. As of late Fields has reverted back to forced drives to the rack and flat shots from the perimeter. But with Toney starting at the point we should see more of the "Elbow" play and the traditional "Pick and Roll" which allows Fields to float around the Three and slash to the hoop from back screens.

One "Pro" from Landry struggles has been Douglas's scoring, he has erupted since the trade and he has stolen much of the shooting guard minutes, but tonight we will not have the luxury. Fields must contribute tonight. His stat line can be unattractive and still accomplish this task, a big shot here or a key offensive there and he will jump back in the fans and coaches good graces. Of course there are other options for Coach D'Antoni to go with, Anthony Carter's minutes increase and Toney swings to the 2, or Bill Walkers minutes climb. Neither of those are bad options but they should be the second option. Game 2 could very well become the Stat and Melo show but solid play from the once back to back Rookie of the Month Award winner would definitely help. the greater good.

Toney Douglas Ties Knicks 3 Point Record

The weather in NYC on March 17 2011 was gorgeous, 60 degrees, clear skies, no storm in sight. No one saw the downpour of threes that was soon to come inside the Garden courtesy of Toney Douglas. Im not sure if Knicks fans have completely changed there view on TD but this was definitely a step in the right direction.

Douglas tied the Knicks record for most 3's made with John Starks and Latrell Sprewell.

Billups may miss 5th game but Toney is the answer

Chauncey is questionable for tonight's game versus the Memphis Grizzlies but him sitting out may not be the worst thing for the team. The last four games that Toney Douglas has started for him have not been in vein, he's been more than a fill-in starter. Toney's play is actually been a big part of the reason the team has won 3 of 4 since Billup's thigh injury. He's shooting 62.5% from the field and averaging 16 points and 5 assists per game since March 2nd. When TD is patient and relaxed the game seems to come to him extremely easy. His defensive effort has never been a question, just the erratic shooting and creating is what most fans cringe and worry about when they see him check into games.

Toney has never played behind a caliber of player like Mr. Big Shot, Toney seems to listen to the advice of Billups better than that of Raymond Felton or Chris Duhon. And why not Billups has the hardware and experience to chastise, teach and overrule any player in the Knicks locker-room. TD's timely corner threes and momentum changing steals-to-layups will be key in the post season. These remaining 19 games should be a prepping for TD and recovery for Billups.

The learning process continues tonight...

Knicks and Toney Duckets Swarm The Hornets!

Last night the Knicks handled the Hornets like some trained bug swatters. The Knicks took them out in a blow out 107-88. What should have been the CP3 showcase turned into the The Toney Duckets Show! With Chauncey Billups missing what could should be one of two games with a deep left thigh bruise. Insert Toney Douglas, and much to my and probably most viewers surprise he played some of his best ball this season. He finished the game with 24 points, shot 10 for 13 from the field and 4 for 6 from deep.

Toney Douglas gets going again

via NYPost.com

Last night, Douglas, the scrappiest Knick, fought through it with his best outing in two weeks, scoring 14 points in the Knicks' streak-busting 113-106 win over the Kings, coming off the bench to help the club rally in the second quarter after falling 15 points behind.

Douglas is a major key and played sensationally during the Knicks' 3-2 start on both ends. In Denver on Tuesday, Douglas did not score -- he was 0-for-4 from the field, 0-for-3 on 3-pointers -- and had no steals in 16 minutes.

In the past five games before Sacramento, Douglas has scored just 27 points total and gotten to the foul line just once.

Douglas told The Post his back has been wrapped in tape for recent games and his all-out, diving-to-the-floor game has been compromised. Douglas said he's been undergoing a tremendous amount of treatment.

"I don't want to use it as an excuse," he told The Post before the contest. "What do you think? Obviously I haven't been the same player the past three, four games."

The Knicks have kept the injury quiet. When coach Mike D'Antoni earlier in the night was asked about Douglas' struggles, he said only his errant shooting had affected his defense.

Is Toney Douglas the Best Back-Up PG in the NBA?

via NYPost.com

The best young point guard gracing the Garden last night was Toney Douglas, not rookie sensation John Wall. The Knicks are forming an identity -- a winning, gritty identity -- and it's more Douglas than Amar'e Stoudemire.

For the second straight night, Stoudemire watched proudly as he got healthy support and the Knicks got another victory, 112-91 over the Wizards, giving them a winning record at 3-2.

Douglas led six Knicks in double figures and is emerging as the season's unsung standout in a bench role. One night after bursting for 30 points in Chicago, Douglas had a team-high 19 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

Wall's Garden debut was a major disappointment. Even with Gilbert Arenas making his season debut for Washington and scoring 18 points, Wall committed nine turnovers and had just seven assists to go with his 13 points. The rookie took the blame.

"I'm a leader and I've got to be a better decision-maker," Wall said.

The Knicks posted 11 steals and 11 blocks. Last year, the Knicks were last in the NBA in blocks.

"We're scrapping up," said Stoudemire, who had an average offensive night with 18 points, but contributed four blocks. "We're taking on the challenge of guarding players, playing team defense."

Douglas could do no wrong. In the fourth quarter, a loose-ball offensive rebound found its way into his hands. Standing 10 feet from the basket, he caught it and lofted it up and in.
