Last night, Douglas, the scrappiest Knick, fought through it with his best outing in two weeks, scoring 14 points in the Knicks' streak-busting 113-106 win over the Kings, coming off the bench to help the club rally in the second quarter after falling 15 points behind.
Douglas is a major key and played sensationally during the Knicks' 3-2 start on both ends. In Denver on Tuesday, Douglas did not score -- he was 0-for-4 from the field, 0-for-3 on 3-pointers -- and had no steals in 16 minutes.
In the past five games before Sacramento, Douglas has scored just 27 points total and gotten to the foul line just once.
Douglas told The Post his back has been wrapped in tape for recent games and his all-out, diving-to-the-floor game has been compromised. Douglas said he's been undergoing a tremendous amount of treatment.
"I don't want to use it as an excuse," he told The Post before the contest. "
What do you think? Obviously I haven't been the same player the past three, four games."
The Knicks have kept the injury quiet. When coach Mike D'Antoni earlier in the night was asked about Douglas' struggles, he said only his errant shooting had affected his defense.
