Walsh Not Fazed By Contract Situation

Most Knicks faithfuls have been scratching there heads wondering why hasn't Donnie Walsh received a extension yet. Its seems like Donnie is the only person wo's not worried about it, yet.

“I’m embarrassed by all this,” Walsh told reporters in Greenburgh, N.Y., adding, “It’s the last thing in the world that I want.”

Walsh's contract expires June 30th but most would have assumed by now some sort of assurance from James Dolan already considering the team has done a complete 180 degree turn-around. The Knicks have an option for another season with Donnie, but that must be picked up by April 30th.

“There is a date. We’re not close to it,” he said in a telephone interview, referring to the April 30 deadline.

“One thing I know about Dolan is he’s honest,” Walsh added. “I don’t think he’d be going through all this rigmarole if he wanted to get rid of me.”

Knicks’ Gallinari Revisiting Basketball Roots

via: NYTimes

Gallinari was 5 years old when his father, Vittorio, installed the basket on the brick driveway outside their home. At the time, it was the only basket within 20 miles. Gallinari found his rhythm with a two-handed push-up shot. At age 6, he won a street-fair shooting contest, beating a bunch of men in their 20s and 30s.
At 11, he was making 55 percent of his 3-point shots.
At 14, he went away to live at a basketball academy in Casalpusterlengo, 17 miles from home.
At 16, he was so easily beating his father in one-on-one games that Vittorio retired for good.
At 18, he was starring for Armani Jeans Milano, his father’s old team.

something like a autobiography...

New-Look Knicks, but Same Old Curry

via nytimes

Howard Beck reports

He has never looked more out of place and less relevant to the team’s future.

Through two days of practice, Curry has been relegated to the third unit, with the rookies and free-agent invitees. He has slogged through drills. On Saturday night, he was lapped by an entire group of players as they weaved through cones around the court.

By the end of Sunday’s practice, the third of camp, Curry was a spectator, watching his teammates jog with medicine balls while he stood near a basket stanchion. He is nursing a tight hamstring, making this the third straight camp that Curry has been injured.

“Obviously, we’re pushing these guys hard,” Coach Mike D’Antoni said. “He misses anything, it just makes it a little bit tougher.”

Asked if Curry was already behind, D’Antoni said, “Well, yeah.”

The setback was almost predictable. Curry reported to camp weighing 325 pounds — a 20-pound increase since April — according to a person in the organization.

Team officials had asked Curry to come back closer to 300 pounds. They also asked him to attend voluntary workouts in July and September. Curry never showed. He was the only player not to attend voluntary workouts and scrimmages this month.

Curry stayed home in July to be with family after the birth of his son. He said he stayed in New York for two months last spring but chose to work out on his own over the summer, with a trainer in Ocean City, N.J.

“It’s just what I wanted to do,” he said last week.
