MITCH LAWRENCE ISN'T FEELING THE HEAT
Despite everything you've heard about the Miami Heat and are going to hear about them, non-stop, over the next six months - about the Big Three, about LeBron James looking to settle scores with his legion of critics and about whether or not Pat Riley comes down from his executive suite to coach the team once it loses two straight games - it'll be a rematch between the Lakers and Celtics when they play the Finals in June.
How are we so sure?
Because the NBA isn't a three-on-three league.
Because the Heat doesn't have the size or length up front to match up with the Celtics.
Because this is the fourth season the Celtics' Big Three have been together, including two trips to the Finals in the last three years, while this is the first time that James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are joining forces. Normally, championship teams need to go through the playoff wars together more than once to carry off the trophy (yes, the Celtics did it in '08).
Miami will be the best story, even if the Heat won't challenge the Bulls' record 72 wins (mainly because it doesn't have Michael Jordan).
But Boston will be the best team in the East, while Miami might not even be the best team in its own state.
Out West, the Lakers will be flying under the radar, despite having the game's best player in Kobe Bryant, despite Phil Jackson coaching his final season and despite a second three-peat potentially off on the horizon.
