In a commercial promoting Tuesday night’s Knicks-Nets game, MSG ran this voiceover:
"Hey Nets. You can walk like us, you can talk like us, but you ain't never gonna be like us. Knicks, Nets, Tuesday, 7:30, MSG."
MSG produces the commercial, but both the Knicks and the network are owned by the Dolans. Prokhorov responded in a statement.
“I don't think we want to be like the Knicks. I think we'd more like to resemble the Lakers,” the owner said as a shot towards the Knicks recent run of futility.
The rivalry between the two local teams has lacked interest through the years, but with the Nets moving to Brooklyn in two years and the teams competing for free agents this offseason it has picked up – at least off the court.

Laugh if you want. But it's true: The New York Knicks are a playoff team.
For most in the NBA, that isn't a big deal, since half the league makes it to the postseason. But in New York, where the Knicks have given a new face to awful the past decade, there is finally hope of playing meaningful basketball games in March and April, instead of simply playing out the string.
What triggered all this optimism? Well, the Knicks, in a flat-out gutty performance, beat the Detroit Pistons 125-116 in double overtime at The Palace on Sunday afternoon.
In seasons gone by, there would have been no way, no how the Knicks would have won that game, especially coming off a matinee loss to the Atlanta Hawks at the Garden on Saturday. The Knicks had every reason to succumb at the end to the Pistons, who enjoyed a comfortable Saturday at home on the couch.
But this isn't just about beating the Pistons, who are a shell of their former selves. Even the harshest Knicks critic has to admit things are changing. No, it's not the change most fans envisioned in the summer. Then again, that's when the city was all about LeBron James coming to the Big Apple to rescue a franchise that has been drowning in losses.
But as the calendar turns from November to December, the Knicks (9-9) have as many victories as the Miami Heat's James Gang. The Knicks are in second place in the Atlantic Division behind the Boston Celtics.
"It's a long year and if we continue to improve as the season goes along then we have a great chance at [the playoffs]," Amare Stoudemire said. "We have to make sure that we continue to improve."
And if they do, and there's no reason to believe they won't, they should be position to secure a spot out of the East. Honestly, when you look at the other teams in their division, excluding the Celts, you would be hard-pressed to pick a squad better than the Knicks right now. And other than Boston, the Knicks are the only team with a winning record on the road. At 7-4 going into Sunday night, they had the most road victories in the entire NBA.
Yes, more than the Los Angeles Lakers.
Laugh if you want. This stuff matters, and it tells you a lot. Good teams win on the road. Period. The opponent doesn't matter, just the getting the win.
The Knicks have won five straight games on the road. It's a sign, a building block. "We are just showing the sort of composure that we have and that we are growing since Day 1," said point guard Raymond Felton, who had 23 points and 11 assists.
It also tells you the Knicks finally have a place to go with the basketball when it matters. The days of playing hot potato with the ball at the end is over. Stoudemire wasn't exactly what Knicks fans wanted, but he's exactly what the Knicks need.
Against the Pistons, Stoudemire had a monster game with 37 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists. "Because of Amare, because of Raymond giving us good leadership, it's easier to win on the road," coach Mike D'Antoni said. "You kind of know where the ball is going and you're going to get pretty good shots. And when that happens, you have a chance to win any place, home or away."
Yeah, yeah. We know how poorly the Knicks have played at home so far -- a lousy 2-5 record at the Garden. Still, you have to believe the Knicks will play better there.
For sure, the Knicks have gotten fat early against teams under .500. With their victory over the 6-11 Pistons, the Knicks are now 7-4 against the also-rans. There's no need to apologize. That's how good teams become good -- by beating bad teams.
"We have to beat the teams we're supposed to beat," Stoudemire said. "That's how the game is played and that's what we've been doing so far."
Now, don't get it twisted. The Knicks aren't going to the NBA Finals this season. They are still a few pieces away. But clearly, they are finally moving forward.

Stoudemire doesn't argue that his reputation as a poor defensive player was well deserved in Phoenix and seemed to suggest that former Suns and current Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni was indirectly responsible.
"It was fair," Stoudemire said. "I was never taught defense. I just never was taught it in high school and also in the NBA."

With center Eddy Curry having yet to suit up and a potential cut after the trade deadline, the Knicks have kept their eye on 6-foot-9 power forward Vernon Goodridge, a Brooklyn native who's playing for the Knicks' D-League affiliate in Springfield, Mass., according to sources.
Goodridge, 26, who flew under the radar at LaSalle University, worked out for the Knicks for several days in late June and impressed. He was the last cut of the Warriors in late October and was drafted by Springfield with the fifth pick. Knicks president Donnie Walsh told The Post recently he was indeed monitoring Goodridge's progress as he likes his leaping ability and defensive potential.
The Knicks don't have a roster spot but can use an extra big man for depth. With center Eddy Curry having yet to suit up and a potential cut after the trade deadline, the Knicks have kept their eye on 6-foot-9 power forward Vernon Goodridge, a Brooklyn native who's playing for the Knicks' D-League affiliate in Springfield, Mass., according to sources.
Goodridge, 26, who flew under the radar at LaSalle University, worked out for the Knicks for several days in late June and impressed. He was the last cut of the Warriors in late October and was drafted by Springfield with the fifth pick. Knicks president Donnie Walsh told The Post recently he was indeed monitoring Goodridge's progress as he likes his leaping ability and defensive potential.
The Knicks don't have a roster spot but can use an extra big man for depth. After a tough loss to begin their four-game road trip, the New York Knicks couldn't have closed it out much better. They're just hoping that momentum will mean something at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks have dropped three straight at MSG, but after a successful visit to California they can pick up their fourth consecutive win in Tuesday night's opener of a home-and-home set with the Charlotte Bobcats.
New York (6-8) dropped its sixth straight overall last Tuesday in Denver, where it fell behind by as many as 16 points early in the fourth quarter.
The Knicks rallied, however, and though they still lost 120-118, their late surge carried over. Danilo Gallinari and Amare Stoudemire scored 27 apiece in a 113-106 win at Sacramento on Wednesday, Raymond Felton led the way with 35 points and 11 assists in a 125-119 victory over Golden State on Friday, then Gallinari and Stoudemire were at it again Saturday.
The duo combined for 70 points - 45 after halftime - in a 124-115 win against the struggling Los Angeles Clippers.
"It was like a video game," Stoudemire said after scoring a season-high 39. "... The positive from this is that we're on a three-game winning streak and our chemistry's now starting to come together. We showed how good we can be and what it takes to win, and we're showing winning qualities. We've just got to keep it going."
It was the first time the Knicks won three games in California on the same trip, and coach Mike D'Antoni's team improved to 5-4 on the road.
New York is just 1-4 at MSG, though, largely due to its inaccuracy from beyond the arc. The Knicks are hitting an NBA-worst 26.0 percent of their 3-pointers at home, while they've knocked down 38.9 percent on the road.
They're 5-0 when they hit 40 percent or more from 3, and 1-8 otherwise.
Stoudemire's production has been consistent regardless of venue, but that hasn't been true for his teammates. Felton, who will be facing the Bobcats (5-8) for the first time after spending his first five seasons with Charlotte, is averaging 19.3 points and shooting 50.4 percent on the road as opposed to 14.2 points and 41.3 percent at home.
Gallinari's differences have been even worse. He's averaged 25.4 points and hit 43.2 percent of his 3-pointers in his last five road games. In the Knicks' five home games, he's averaged 12.8 points and shot 25.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Perhaps Charlotte will be better served by playing at New York's up-tempo pace on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Bobcats' 73.2 field-goal attempts per game are the league's fewest, but they seemed invigorated running the floor with Phoenix on Saturday.
It helped that the Suns didn't have Steve Nash. Charlotte took a season-high 87 shots and hit a season-best 57.5 percent, getting the first triple-double in franchise history from Stephen Jackson (24 points, 10 boards, 10 assists) to lead the way to a 123-105 win.
"We knew that we could attack the rack and be aggressive, and we knew if we played defense we could beat these guys," said Jackson, who's averaged 26.0 points and hit 51.4 percent from 3-point range in his last four games.
Jackson's two trips to MSG with Charlotte haven't been as memorable. He shot 36.6 percent as the Knicks won each meeting by four points behind 26.5 points per game from Wilson Chandler.

The Heat's guards couldn't contain the quickness of T.J. Ford (13 points). And Brandon Rush (20 points) badly outplayed Wade.

Willis Reed is not walking through that door. Patrick Ewing is not walking through that door. Marcus Camby is not walking through that door.
Amar'e Stoudemire walked through that door and proudly declared the Knicks back, but to call him a combo power forward/center is silly because I'm not sure how many centers like to face-up their defender 15 feet from the basket and drive to the hole. I'm also not sure how many centers are as allergic to defense as Amar'e, but that's a different story.
The Knicks' saving grace down low, and perhaps overall, is 6'8" Ronny Turiaf, who serves as the perfect complement to Stoudemire. Turiaf patrols the starting power forward spot these days, moving Stoudemire to the "center" position. This partnership is proving to work wonders as they each fill each other's gaps.
Turiaf is top-20 in the Eastern Conference with a plus-minus of 56 on a list filled with All-Stars. He is the ultimate team player, masking his deficiencies on the offensive end by playing aggressive and timely defense, while making all the little plays playoff contending teams need to make.
The Knicks are a 6-5 team with Turiaf in the lineup, but the injury-prone big man was hurt for three games, all Knickerbocker losses. With Turiaf out and Stoudemire battling foul trouble in one of those losses against Minnesota, Kevin Love torched the Knicks for 31 points and 31 rebounds in a maestro performance that hadn't been emulated since Moses Malone sprung for 32 and 38 in 1982.
When Turiaf returned from injury, he immediately began making all the little plays again, helping the Knicks to a three-game winning streak on the West Coast. He sprung for seven points, eight assists and three blocks in a 125-119 win at Golden State in 35 minutes of play. His court time was peculiar because he had played for over 30 minutes only once prior to this night.
Herein lies a problem, however. The Knicks' saving grace has never played a full season or averaged more than 22 minutes per game through an entire season. So how do the Knicks rectify this situation and find a Plan B when Turiaf is not on the court?
