Dantoni Shot Down Gilbert Arenas Trade Talk

via NYPost.com

"I heard I could've been traded there and then I heard I wasn't his type of point guard," said Arenas, who scored 10 points in last night's 112-103 Magic win. "I understand when you've had Steve Nash all those years, I'm a guy who's still trying to score 60."
Part of the summer strategy was leaving salary cap space open for 2011 with Carmelo Anthony's free agency and Chris Paul's free agency in 2102. If the Knicks discussed Arenas, it likely was shot down because of his contract. He will make $19 million next season and $21 million in 2012.
After the Amar'e Stoudemire signing, the Knicks likely didn't have room for Arenas unless Eddy Curry's deal was in the trade.
"It didn't even come up," D'Antoni said. "He never came up. Not that I can remember."
Could he fit in D'Antoni's point-guard system?
"I'm sure he could," D'Antoni said. "He's a good player."

STAT vs SUPERMAN

via NYDailynews.com

Stoudemire lived in the Orlando area during his chaotic teenage years when he attend six different high schools before making the jump to the NBA.

But Stoudemire had his game face on yesterday -- eschewing sentimentality -- when asked if he ever considered playing pro ball in Orlando.

"I don't believe in Magic," Stoudemire said jokingly with a smile.

Stoudemire, who lived in upstate Newburgh while going to middle school before moving to Florida, has played center much of the season once Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni decided to go small, yanking former starting centers Timofey Mozgov (now out of the rotation) and Ronny Turiaf from the starting five. D'Antoni added Wilson Chandler to power forward and moved Stoudemire to center -- something he claimed in preseason he wasn't crazy about.

On nights like tonight, Stoudemire at center could backfire, if he gets in early foul trouble against Howard in a clash of two of the best bodies in the NBA. In Miami Tuesday, Heat center Zydrunas Ilgauskas brutalized the Knicks inside in the first half.

"He's definitely a physical specimen down there in the post," Stoudemire said of Howard. "He's definitely a great defensive player. Offensively, he's a little limited, so we're going to use that to our advantage."

"He's so strong once he catches the ball in the paint. He's hard to guard," added Stoudemire, who said he was briefly a Magic fan. "But if you can get him outside the paint and make him put the ball on the floor, it's easier for us."

Erik Spoelstra Met With Amar'e On July 1

via RealGM.com

Erik Spoelstra met with Amar'e Stoudemire and his agent, Happy Waters, at midnight on July 1 for two hours.
Stoudemire met with the Heat that night while the Knicks sat down with Joe Johnson and Mike Miller.
The forward did speak with New York coach Mike D'Antoni on the phone in the first few hours of free agency.
"It was a very good meeting," Spoelstra told The New York Post. "He was a confident guy. My sense was his main concern was to go somewhere he can win."
Stoudemire had intense interest in Miami, but he ultimately signed a $100 million contract with the Knicks.
The Heat went harder after Chris Bosh than Stoudemire because of Dwyane Wade's personal friendship with the former, according to sources.

Walsh has spoken with a representative for center Earl Barron, released Tuesday by Phoenix. Walsh has Barron on the backburner. He's trying to make a trade in the next week, possibly for a backup point guard and is not ready to release a player to open up a roster spot for Barron.

Ramon Sessions, the Cavaliers backup point guard whom Knicks pursued two summers ago, is on their radar again.

Amare Starting a Clothing Line?

via NYPost.com

Amar'e Stoudemire is getting into the fashion business -- the Knicks' power forward is launching a clothing line with designer Rachel Roy, sources told Page Six.
The insiders said the line will be a part of Roy's contemporary label for Macy's, Rachel Rachel Roy, and is being planned to launch next fall. Althought details are still being squared away, we hear the collection will be for women.
Stoudemire and Roy were seen last week having dinner at clubby West Village eatery The Lion, possibly hammering out details of their collaboration. The future business partners met at an event during New York Fashion Week in September.
Stoudemire has had his size-15 foot in the fashion world since arriving in town after he signed a $100 million deal to join the Knicks. During Fashion Week, Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour personally invited the 6-foot-10 NBA star to the Fashion's Night Out runway show at Lincoln Center.
Later that week, Stoudemire sat in the front row at Tommy Hilfiger's show, between Wintour and European editor at large Hamish Bowles and across from Ed Westwick, Jessica Szohr, Jennifer Lopez, Lenny Kravitz and Neil Patrick Harris. And Stoudemire's new gal pal is a onetime Ford model -- former Kanye West flame Amber Rose.
Stoudemire shared his obsession with clothing with Page Six Magazine in September, saying, "I love fashion . . . I love watches. I love shoes. I make sure that every time I step out of the house, I'm feeling comfortable and fashion-forward. Depending on the occasion, I dress the part."
Amare's rep said, "They've had conversations but nothing's confirmed." Macy's didn't respond. Roy's rep had no comment.

Mavericks/Contenders Open To Renting Melo?

via DenverPost.com

While the New Jersey Nets remain the most likely destination for Nuggets' star Carmelo Anthony, NBA sources said today a couple of contending teams have expressed interest in "renting" Anthony for the rest of the season. Those teams appear willing to trade for Melo knowing they might not be able to sign him to a long-term contract.

The sources would not identify the teams willing to possibly rent Anthony, but Dallas could be one team making an inquiry. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told 103.3 FM in Dallas earlier this season: "It just depends on who the guy is and what we'd have to give up — (but) we'll play rent-a-player, no question about it."

Nets New Deal For Carmelo Anthony

via YahooSports.com

So far, there are trade scenarios that include a combination of Anthony’s Denver teammates – including forward Al Harrington(notes) – and other league players coming to the Nets.
“The way this is structured now, the Nets will significantly upgrade their team,” said one NBA executive involved in the talks.
Said a Western Conference executive whose team has pursued Anthony: “ ’Melo wants something similar to the Orlando deal, where he won’t have to go into New Jersey – or anywhere he’s going – without some help right away.”
Denver’s and New Jersey’s trade partners are still unclear, but league executives said the Nets and Nuggets are tweaking several possible proposals with multiple teams. For now, New Jersey general manager Billy King is preparing to send rookie forward Derrick Favors(notes), the expiring contract of Troy Murphy(notes), two or three future first-round draft picks and $3 million to Denver for minimally Anthony and Harrington. More Nuggets and Nets would likely be on the move, too.
Center Brook Lopez(notes) is the only Nets player not involved in any of the proposals, sources said.

Knicks Back-Up PG Options

HOLIDAY SHOPPING: The Timberwolves' Sebastian Telfair, a Brooklyn native, is one of several names in the mix as the Knicks scour the league for an available reserve point guard. via NYPost.com (Peter Vecsey)

Aside from Mr. Big, the Knicks are scouring the topography for a third point guard who doesn't have to earn coach Mike D'Antoni's respect but already has it.
That rules out everyone in the Development League except Texas Legends coach Nancy Lieberman and perhaps her valued crutch Antonio Daniels.
Free agents Flip Murray, adept at handling both backcourt positions, and consummate professional Anthony Johnson can be had for the veteran's minimum.
I have no idea what D'Antoni or Donnie Walsh think of A.J. Price, but the Pacers reserve is a rarely seen favorite of mine; he stays sharp backing up Darren Collison and T.J. Ford and almost always seems to deliver no matter how little time he gets or how many games (four and counting) between assignments.
AP
HOLIDAY SHOPPING: The Timberwolves' Sebastian Telfair, a Brooklyn native, is one of several names in the mix as the Knicks scour the league for an available reserve point guard.
Previous reports identify Timberwolf Sebastian Telfair as a distinct option. His clear-cut availability, experience and versatility, especially long distance dialing (18-of-47 on 3-pointers vs. 3-of-12 for Price) make him attractive.
The snag is, Telfair makes $2.7 million, and the player they'd probably want to swap for him is Roger Mason, whose salary slot is $1.4 million.

Randolph To The Rescue

After losing three straight games its hard not to notice every small detail to the reasons why we're losing,  but one that I believe has gone unnoticed is the lack of playing time for Anthony Randolph. Boston we didn't necessarily need him, Miami we needed some sort of spark in the second half, and in Cleveland Amare looked tired and in pain.

The Knicks are looking to acquire some outside help in the back court (Telfair), but the problems don't stop there. Amare is becoming spent, Turiaf still recovering while playing, andh Mozgov's slow learning it may be time to get Randolph some steady minutes in these next few games. According to reports he has been doing and saying all of the right things, he's has way to much talent to just spend his days on the DNP list every night. The emergence of Shawne Williams play has halted others playing time but we showed in the last few games that we need another force down low besides Ronny.

Yesterday's game(Cleveland 12/19) the Knicks had 4 of the 5 starters played 40 minutes or more, versus Boston the same this cannot continue, Chandler needs a break, Amare, etc. A total of 102 minutes for AR  thus far for his talents is unacceptable.

Amare Stoudemire Hitting Amber Rose?

Via Bossip.com Check the Article After the Jump
Amar’e Stoudemire recovered from Wednesday night’s heartbreaking loss to the Boston Celtics by cozying up to Kanye West’s ex-flame, Amber Rose. The Knicks power forward left Madison Square Garden with curvaceous Rose after the game and partied with her at Midtown lounge Covet, and they left together at 2 a.m.
Bald, bodacious Rose attended the game with a friend and taped a viral video Tuesday night to encourage fans to vote Stoudemire to the NBA All-Star team. Sources told Page Six that Rose and Stoudemire arrived at Covet with two friends around 12:30 a.m. “He had his arm around her shoulders when they walked in,” reported a spy. Amar’e and Amber sat very close to one another at a table with two friends of Rose’s.
Damn, that Kanye West workout plan finally got Amber Rose the NBA Player. No further comments.

Knicks Wanted 2011 Pick Back From Houston For Randolph

Via The Houston Chronicle

The Knicks wanted their pick back for Randolph and the Rockets were not going to give them that since it is not lottery protected beyond the first pick. The Knicks don't appear headed back to the lottery, but you never know how an injury and a few bouncing ping pong balls could unexpectedly change things. Daryl Morey said a few years ago that he would never trade a pick without lottery protection. That apparently includes trading someone else's pick.

Nets To Acquire Two First-Round Picks In Three-Team Trade

via RealGM.com (via cbssports.com )

The Nets are close to acquiring multiple first round picks that will be used in a potential trade for Carmelo Anthony, two people familiar with the situation told CBSSports.com.

New Jersey has agreed in principle to a three-team trade where the Nets receive a first round pick in 2012 from the Rockets that will be lottery protected according to the Houston Chronicle and an additional first round pick from the Lakers in 2011.

Houston would acquire Terrence Williams, while Joe Smith would be sent to the Lakers and Sasha Vujacic would go to the Nets.

The deal can't be finalized until Wednesday when Smith becomes trade-eligible.

New Jersey already owns Golden State's 2011 lottery protected first rounder, which would also be included in a trade for Anthony along with the two picks acquired in this trade and one of their own over the next two seasons.

Derrick Favors and Troy Murphy would also be included in any trade the Nets may complete for Anthony.

The Nets have received assurances from several people from Anthony's camp that he would sign an extension with the club.

The framework of the three-team trade came together on Tuesday, just two days after word leaked that Anthony would only sign an extension with New York.

According to a Yahoo! report, the Nets are confident owner Mikhail Prokhorov and Avery Johnson can convince Anthony to commit to the Nets in the long-term.

Carmelo Anthony Denies Knicks or Nothing Report

via NYPost.com

"No, I haven't talked to [Denver general manager] Masai [Ujiri] about who I would sign with and who I want to sign with," Melo said the day after being serenaded at the Garden during the Nuggets' 129-125 loss to the Knicks. "I've never had that conversation.'

"My options are open," Anthony added. "That doesn't mean I'm not [going to re-sign]. That doesn't mean I am."

Melo would Have To Be Robin to Amare's Batman

via NYDailyNews.com

New York, New York, it's a helluva town, especially when you're an NBA scoring machine, the Knicks want you and you're free to come home in just seven more months.
"I had people yelling out the window, 'We need you in New York,'" Carmelo Anthony said Sunday about his two-day stay in Manhattan. "It feels good to hear that."
In midtown, Anthony reveled in the adulation. But inside the Garden, during the Knicks' latest win, it was another world, entirely.
With the game on the line and the Knicks already lucky to have escaped a non-ejection for Amar'e Stoudemire, Anthony was treated like a journeyman backup and not a four-time All-NBA selection when he drove hard to the hoop against Danilo Gallinari.
Anthony is going to make his big money this summer, if not before, even if there's a lockout and the players' wages take a nosedive. He's the best player on the market, hands down. Still, after he was whistled for bowling over Gallinari to help seal the Knicks' 129-125 win, he wasn't about to begin forking over $25,000 to the league by complaining about the call. His coach, George Karl, said it was "kind of scary" to see an NBA game end on a flop call.
"They called it," Anthony said, "and you can't get it back."
Anthony was standing in the visitors locker room in front of another media mob. After scoring 31 points, he was peppered with questions about his plans for a second straight day and was politely evasive.
Our sense is that he still wants to leave Denver but they're scrambling to try to keep him. Insiders say the Nuggets are OK with the idea of listening to Anthony's recommendations on what should be done with the team, which is a good sign for Nugget fans, if, that is, he knows what he's talking about.
Sometimes, even the best players aren't the shrewdest judges of talent or chemistry. Don't forget that Michael Jordan once blistered the Chicago GM, Jerry Krause, for trading off his buddy, Charles Oakley, to the Knicks for Bill Cartwright. As it turned out, Big Bill was the critical missing piece to get the Bulls off on their first three-peat.
If it means re-signing Anthony, then the Nuggets have no choice but to listen to the face of their franchise, who reportedly is in favor of his team parting ways with Chauncey Billups, J.R. Smith and Kenyon Martin, all of whom are free this summer.
Anthony could come to New York, if that is what he really wants, but would he be OK with a No. 2 role? Because it's now been firmly established that he would be listed on the Garden marquee under Stoudemire, who has needed only a quarter of the season to solidify his standing as the best Knick player since Patrick Ewing.

Raymond Felton Is Taking Off

via YahooSports.com

Of course, Raymond Felton(notes) has been in the league since 2005. But has he really?
This is incredibly cruel to fans of the Charlotte Bobcats, because it smacks of the usual nonsense that fandoms outside of major-major-MAJOR markets have to deal with, consistently. That their finest players cannot wait to get out of town, and into a metropolis where parking is something you plan out a decade ahead. That time spent building a franchise or a rebuilding process up from square one is just a stepping stone spent toiling before you move onto another more prominent team that happens to be several squares ahead. That Charlotte doesn't count.
And I'm telling you, as someone who saw the fans fill that stadium 20 years ago, and saw the locals put headbands around statues downtown a decade ago, Charlotte counts.
It was the Bobcats that didn't count. And while Raymond Felton is a professional who should be relied upon to provide spirit and spark 82 games a year, he's also a human who played as if he knew better. And stuck on a middling team with no long-term plan working for coaches who loved to walk it up and call 197 plays per 100 possessions, Ray was stuck.
In New York? He's killing it.

Amare Is Having A Historic Knicks Season

via NYPost.com

There have been just four Knicks players who have finished a season with a better scoring average than Amar'e Stoudemire has delivered in the first 22 games.
Stoudemire, the 6-foot-10, $100 million man, has been a star since coming aboard this summer and has been the leading factor in the Knicks' 13-9 start. The Knicks head into tonight's matchup with the Raptors at the Garden winners of five straight and 10 of 11.
Stoudemire, the two-time reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week, will try to hit the 30-point plateau tonight for a sixth straight game, which just one Knick has done. Willie Naulls once poured in 30 in seven straight, a club record set in 1962. Stoudemire is the first to do it in five consecutive games since Stephon Marbury in 2005.

Amar'e Stoudemire, accepting congratulations from Raymond Felton during the Knicks' 121-114 win over the Timberwolves on Monday night, will look to reach the 30-point plateau for the sixth straight game tonight against the Raptors.
Stoudemire is averaging 25.3 points per game, which would be the highest scoring average by a Knick since Patrick Ewing racked up 26.6 points per game in the 1990-91 season. Only Ewing (who also averaged 28.6 in 1989-90), Richie Guerin (29.5 in 1961-62), Bernard King (26.3 in 1983-84 and 32.9 in 1984-85) and Bob McAdoo (26.7 in 1976-77, 26.5 in 1977-78 and 26.9 in 1978-79) ever averaged more than Stoudemire.

"The guy's terrific," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said.
